Continuing Medical Education (CME), and Continuing Professional Development (CPD); and Medi-Vision™’s objective assessment method:
Medi-Vision™ Films DVDs provide surrogate clinical experience and are intended for active CME and CPD, as well as undergraduate learning. To facilitate objective assessment Professor Anderson has prepared a bank of multiple choice questions (MCQs) that relate to the content of each film, which are stored on the Medi-Vision™ website. The individual doctor or student first registers a unique name and identifier and a password. On selecting a film, and indicating that it has been viewed, he or she can then request a unique test paper. This consists of 20 questions in true/false format, each of which is relevant to the content of the film, taken at random from a larger bank of up to 65 questions. The pass mark for each film is set at 80% (ie 16 or more answers correct). For incorrect answers, an explanation is given and the candidate guided to view the relevant part of the film again. If the candidate does not achieve 80%, the exam can be taken again not less than 2 hours later, and this process continued until a pass mark is achieved. The candidate is then Emailed a Pass Certificate for submission to his CME or CPD Accrediting Body, and (for organisations registered with us on line) the accrediting organisation is automatically informed. To take the On Line Tests you need first to register.
Much of what passes for CME and CPD on the web is of uncertain quality and not verifiable. In the case of Medi-Vision™ DVDs, they have been produced with the participation of experts and the quality is there for all to see. This can be verified on line, by viewing the film clips, by reading the transcripts of the films, and by sampling the multiple choice tests. We welcome feedback from CME and CPD Accrediting Institutions, and will provide them with DVDs on request. Through the system of on line examinations we offer a unique and simple way to verify that the individual has viewed and learnt from each film, and attained from it an acceptable standard of knowledge and expertise. If you would like to register with us as an Accrediting Organisation for some or all of the films in the series, please contact us . You can then credit doctors whose CME/CPD is accredited by you, on receipt of verification that they have both confirmed they have viewed the film, and achieved an 80% pass mark.
To decide whether our films are suitable for CME/CPD, we suggest you first view our sample film clips, and look at the brief description of each film. The content of each film can be judged by reading the transcripts (see 'Transcripts'). Alternatively you can purchase and view films of potential interest. The quality of the test questions can be judged by registering and doing some sample tests.
Accrediting Units:
We suggest you relate this to the length of the film as follows. For films of 20 - 40 minutes duration the student or doctor is credited with the equivalent to 1 hour of passive lectures. For films of 41 minutes or more duration we suggest the equivalent of 2 hours of passive lectures. This takes account of the concentration of information and experience, which means that most doctors will need to view it twice and take the test more than once, in order to achieve the 80% pass mark.
